Wipro launches supercomputers in India

Wipro Infotech in partnership with California-based Z Research launched
Supernova - a range of supercomputers and superstorage in India.

Speaking at the launch, Ashutosh Vaidya, VP, Wipro Personal Computing, said,
"Till now India was known for low-cost and services, but today, we have
talent and people, and companies are looking at India to set up R&D and
design centers. The trend of leveraging India's skills in engineering and
industrial design work is gaining momentum. For this customers need sustainable
supercomputing infrastructure."

According to the partnership, Z Research specialized in commoditizing
supercomputers and superstorage, would provide domain expertise and software and
Wipro extends support capability, hardware, internal R&D expertise and
market reach. "Wipro gets Gluster HPC - supercomputer and Gluster FS-
Superstorage software stack from the Z RESEARCH. Wipro engages in entire
clustering, system integration, service sustenance and support," said
Vaidya.

He further added that Supernova is made affordable to reach the huge segment
of India. It is easily manageable and deployable. It is targeted to meet the
data crunching and storage needs of the engineering institutes, R&D centers
and other high end design space.

Supercomputer is based on Open Source, standard based product and not
proprietary, seamlessly scalable from one Teraflop to 100s of Petaflops.
Superstorage can scale to several Petabytes and is fully POSIX compliant. It
also provides for self-healing, continue data protection and de-duplication.
"The entry level one-Teraflop supercomputer with four-Terabyte storage
would cost Rs 25 lakhs," Vaidya informed.

Anand Babu, co-founder of Z Research said, "India is a vital market for
us and we are excited to bring supercomputing and massive distributed clustered
storage technology and solutions to India by partnering with Wipro. There is
huge demand for storage in media, Internet space and other segments. Currently,
high end computing market globally is estimated at $35 billion."

Speaking about the addressable market, Vaidya added that initially Wipro
plans to tap the Indian market and later would look at the Middle East and Asia
Pacific.
