The Seagate AI report points to a clear shift in how Indian enterprises are preparing for AI. As workloads grow, storage is moving from a back-end IT function to a strategic part of business infrastructure.
Seagate Technology’s inaugural 2026 Data Infrastructure Readiness Report found that 100% of Indian technology decision-makers surveyed expect AI to increase their organisations’ storage requirements over the next three years. The same share also sees storage becoming strategic business infrastructure, compared with 98% globally.
AI growth is putting storage in focus
The findings suggest that Indian organisations are looking beyond compute when planning for AI. While AI applications remain central, storage capacity, data access and scalability are becoming equally important as deployments expand.
There is also strong confidence in the business value of these investments. 91% of Indian respondents reported moderate or significant returns from AI investments, ahead of the global figure of 86%.
The report also found that 89% of Indian respondents consider their organisations fully or mostly prepared for AI’s long-term data requirements, compared with 83% globally.
AI is also shaping infrastructure planning
An interesting shift is happening on the infrastructure side itself. 62% of Indian respondents say they use AI to determine storage and operational needs, the highest share among the seven markets surveyed and above the global 52%.
That matters because data quality and readiness, cited by 53% of respondents globally, and storage infrastructure, at 43%, were identified as leading challenges to AI deployment.
For channel partners, SIs and enterprise technology teams, the message is straightforward: AI infrastructure planning increasingly needs to account for the data layer alongside applications and compute.
Sustainability enters the AI infrastructure equation
The report also highlights energy planning as part of this transition. 58% of Indian respondents say their organisations are investing in renewable energy, compared with 46% globally.
India also leads in demand-based power deployment, with 48% saying their organisations deploy power based on actual data needs rather than keeping infrastructure running continuously.
The broader picture from the Seagate AI report is that Indian enterprises are preparing for AI growth by thinking more closely about storage, operational planning and energy use. As AI workloads scale, data infrastructure is becoming a business planning issue, not just a technical one.
