
As enterprises build larger AI factories, security is becoming as important as compute performance. The latest collaboration between Akamai and NVIDIA signals a shift in how organizations may protect AI infrastructure—not by adding more software, but by making security part of the infrastructure itself.
The announcement introduces Akamai Guardicore Meets NVIDIA BlueField, combining Akamai Guardicore Segmentation with NVIDIA Vera BlueField-4 STX and the NVIDIA DOCA software platform. The goal is to bring identity-based Zero Trust security closer to AI workloads while avoiding the performance overhead often associated with traditional host-based security tools.
Security Moves Closer to the AI Workload
Modern AI factories handle far more than model training. They process sensitive data, manage autonomous agents, store context memory, and run inference workloads at scale. According to the announcement, protecting these environments requires security that operates at the same speed as accelerated computing.
Instead of relying on static network rules, Akamai Guardicore Segmentation continuously maps workload interactions across data centres, cloud environments, Kubernetes clusters, and edge infrastructure. Security policies are then created using workload identity, application context, and runtime behaviour.
Infrastructure Becomes the Security Layer
A key part of the integration is moving policy enforcement into NVIDIA BlueField-4 STX through the NVIDIA DOCA platform. Rather than consuming GPU, CPU, or storage resources, security functions such as segmentation, telemetry, anomaly detection, and threat isolation are executed within the infrastructure fabric itself.
The architecture also focuses on containment. If one workload is compromised, the breach can be isolated to a limited segment, allowing the rest of the AI factory to continue operating.
A Different Approach to AI Factory Security
The collaboration reflects a broader shift in enterprise infrastructure strategy. As AI factories become business-critical, organizations are looking beyond perimeter security toward embedded, workload-aware protection that scales alongside AI operations.
Akamai Guardicore Segmentation integrated with NVIDIA BlueField and NVIDIA DOCA is expected to become available in the second half of 2026, while integration with NVIDIA Vera BlueField-4 STX on partner storage and infrastructure platforms is expected in the first half of 2027.
