Bandhan Bank new CTO Upendra Chaturvedi signals digital shift

The appointment of Bandhan Bank's new CTO, Upendra Chaturvedi, adds a technology leader with experience across banking, digital lending, APIs and large-scale technology programmes. Chaturvedi will lead the bank’s technology function as it continues to build digital banking capabilities and technology-led services.
The appointment gives Bandhan Bank a CTO whose career has largely sat at the intersection of banking and technology. His previous roles include Chief Technology Officer at IndusInd Bank and technology leadership positions at IDFC FIRST Bank, giving him experience across both core banking technology and newer digital platforms.
Chaturvedi gets a broad technology mandate
As CTO, Chaturvedi will oversee areas spanning digital banking, customer-facing technology, core infrastructure and scalable platforms. The focus is not limited to individual digital products, but also includes the technology foundation supporting customer touchpoints and banking operations.
That makes the appointment relevant to the bank’s wider digital transformation. Building platforms that can scale while improving customer experiences will be central to how the technology function supports Bandhan Bank’s growth and financial inclusion objectives.
Banking technology experience shapes the move
Before joining Bandhan Bank, Chaturvedi served as CTO at IndusInd Bank, where his responsibilities included technology strategy and application technology. At IDFC FIRST Bank, he worked across retail assets, API integrations and digital lending.
His earlier career included technology roles at DBS Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland and Barclays Capital, along with stints at Accenture, Hewlett-Packard, Cognizant Technology Solutions and Tata Consultancy Services.
This mix gives him exposure to traditional financial institutions as well as technology and consulting environments. His experience covers engineering, solution architecture, API platforms, digital lending and technology strategy.
APIs and scalable platforms remain key
The Bandhan Bank technology leadership change comes with a clear focus on strengthening the systems behind digital banking. Chaturvedi’s experience with API-led platforms and digital lending could be particularly relevant as the bank works on improving digital capabilities and building scalable infrastructure.
The emphasis is therefore on both the customer-facing layer and the technology underneath it. For a bank pursuing digital-first growth, the ability to connect services, support customer journeys and scale infrastructure becomes an important part of the technology agenda.
A technology-led next phase
Chaturvedi is an alumnus of the National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra and the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode, combining an engineering and management background.
His appointment strengthens Bandhan Bank’s technology leadership with experience across banking, financial services and enterprise technology. The immediate focus will be on digital banking, customer experiences and scalable platforms, making technology a central part of the bank’s next phase of growth.
