Tally and DPIIT Initiative Highlight Governance for Next-Gen MSMEs

Tally Solutions, India’s leading business management software provider, in collaboration with Startup India and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), has announced the winners of the inaugural edition of the Tally Startup Challenge. The final selections were unveiled during a leadership gathering in New Delhi, bringing together early-stage founders, venture capital investors, policy enablers, and corporate leaders to analyse emerging technology opportunities within India's industrial sector.

Launched under the broader Bharat Startup Grand Challenge framework, the initiative was conceptualised to encourage the domestic startup ecosystem to build practical, scalable software and hardware systems addressing real-world operational bottlenecks. The debut cohort focused on the core operating theme “Capacity 360 – Better Planning, Better Productivity,” tasking participants with designing solutions that help small and medium manufacturers improve resource planning, limit waste, and maximise shop floor efficiency.

Rigorous Multi-Stage Technical Evaluation

The initial call for entries drew close to100 applications from technology startups located across the country. To separate high-value engineering models from surface-level software presentations, the cohort underwent a rigorous multi-stage evaluation process.

The vetting architecture paired Tally’s internal core engineering leadership with an independent expert jury panel to grade submittals based on code scalability, cross-platform stability, localised adaptability, and capital deployment return on investment (ROI). Following this analysis, six entities were advanced as national finalists to present live on-site demonstrations.

Honouring the Cohort Leaders

The leadership forum certified two primary innovators driving measurable advancement across factory workflows:

• The Winner — Resonating Mindz: Founded by Avinash Manerahimatpurkar, the enterprise specialises in deploying accessible Industry 4.0 architectures. The firm's engineering matrix focuses on real-time production monitoring, AI-powered predictive maintenance modules to prevent equipment downtime, localised energy consumption tracking, and automated computer vision inspection nodes to discover physical surface defects during high-density manufacturing runs.

• The Runner-Up — Digital Gemba: Founded by Shashidhar Ranganath, the platform delivers secure, compliant, and accurate analytical applications built specifically to digitise shop floor data. By converting manual paper trails into dynamic data visualisations, the system simplifies data-driven decision-making for operations managers attempting to implement world-class quality frameworks within mid-sized facilities.

Prioritising Governance Over Speculative Valuation

Alongside the product showcases, the summit hosted a specialised panel discussion titled “Building Trust Before Valuation: The New Currency of Indian Businesses.” The executive dialogue explored a shifting paradigm within the Indian corporate landscape, analysing how strict fiscal transparency, absolute data accountability, and reliable business fundamentals are taking precedence over speculative public valuations.

Industry leaders noted that as small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) aggressively digitise to join global supply chains, building sustainable compliance and data governance layers directly into their software architecture becomes a primary commercial asset.

Fostering a Culture of Localised Engineering Access

Tejas Goenka, Managing Director of Tally Solutions, commented on the quality of problem-solving demonstrated across the challenge entries:

“We see many startups trying to help make Indian business owners’ lives easier, and with the Tally Startup Challenge we saw some incredible ideas that took on real opportunities to create solutions. With the encouraging response that we have seen, we are looking forward to seeing how we can help more such creators build for business owners in India and globally.”

On Tally's vision for scaling the innovations, Tejas shared,

"So, I would say that I've met a few of the folks who submitted their applications, runner-up as well. And I thought that there was a strong opportunity to help in two ways. One is, of course, to see how we can partner with them to serve our customers better.

The second is to see if we can help in sharing some of our lessons in building a product company. So, if we are able to do both, I think there can be some magical outcomes."

On the future outlook, how Tally measures the challenge's success, he added,

I think it was more than can we help MSMEs, not just from the challenge perspective, but with our relationship with DPIIT. Can we help them become more financially aware and financially capable? We feel that that's an area that many, many entrepreneurs can do better in and feel better with. The second one is to see if India can become more product-oriented. We are one of the few product companies, unfortunately, that have hit the scale that we have.

Tejas also talked about his learnings from the Startup Challenge,

I think the two things that we've probably learned are that the startup, that is one, and even the runner-up, they've gone into an incredible amount of depth when it comes to solving the problem statement that was in the challenge around capacity planning, production planning.

So, for me, learning that domain through the startups has been amazing, even though we are already serving that.

But if we are able to help more startups learn some of the lessons that we've learned, we hope that India can become the product nation that it deserves to be.

By bridging the gap between independent software developers and state-backed manufacturing initiatives, Tally Solutions and the DPIIT aim to strengthen cooperation across the technology channel. The program establishes a blueprint for ongoing ecosystem engagement, ensuring that emerging developers can refine their enterprise-scale architectures to meet the distinct constraints of the Indian industrial economy.
