How Unicorn Infosolutions is accelerating Apple's retail growth in India

India’s Apple retail ecosystem is entering a new phase of expansion, and the opportunity is no longer confined to metro cities. As consumer aspirations rise in smaller towns and financing options become more accessible, Apple’s presence is steadily deepening in Tier 2, Tier 3, and even emerging Tier 4 markets. For channel partners such as Unicorn Infosolutions, the focus is not just on opening more stores but on building a sustainable retail model that combines accessibility, services and long-term customer engagement.

In a conversation with DQ Channels, Baljinder Singh, Founder and Director, Unicorn Infosolutions, shared how the company is approaching expansion, what is driving demand in smaller cities, and why the future of Apple retail may be increasingly shaped by services, education and device lifecycle support.

Financing and aspiration are reshaping Apple demand beyond metros

One of the long-standing assumptions about premium technology products in India has been that affordability remains a barrier in smaller cities. However, according to Singh, the market dynamics are changing rapidly.

He explained that financing availability and growing consumer aspirations are becoming the primary drivers of demand for Apple products outside major metropolitan centres.

“Financing and aspiration are the two major things. Financing is becoming a key enabler and customers across smaller cities increasingly aspire to own premium products,” said Baljinder Singh, Founder and Director, Unicorn Infosolutions.

The company has witnessed significant momentum in Tier 2 and Tier 3 locations, where organised retail is expanding, and consumers are becoming more comfortable with financing-led purchases. Singh believes that the next phase of growth could eventually extend into Tier 5 cities as retail infrastructure continues to develop.

Store expansion is closely aligned with local market potential

Having achieved the milestone of 100 stores, Unicorn Infosolutions is preparing for another phase of aggressive expansion. The company expects to add approximately 50 stores over the next three years, with a combination of metro, Tier 2 and Tier 3 locations.

According to Singh, the expansion strategy is guided by detailed market assessments and catchment studies that identify regions with strong demand potential.

“There is an aim to open at least 50 stores in the next three years. The mix will include metro markets as well as Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, depending on the opportunity and potential identified in each region,” he said.

He noted that city selection is driven by detailed catchment analysis, where market potential, trading density and customer demand patterns are evaluated before a new location is approved.

This structured approach reflects the growing maturity of premium retail expansion in India, where location planning is increasingly data-driven rather than purely opportunity-led.

Physical retail continues to hold its ground against e-commerce

Despite the continued growth of online commerce, Unicorn Infosolutions believes physical retail remains central to the customer journey.

While the company operates its own online channel, Singh pointed out that the overwhelming majority of sales continue to come through physical stores. The reason, he argues, is that customers still value hands-on experiences when purchasing premium devices.

“Today we have 100 stores and that itself reflects customer preference. People still want to come to stores, experience products firsthand and interact with trained staff before making a purchase decision,” he explained.

Rather than positioning online and offline channels as competitors, Unicorn views them as complementary. The company maintains consistent offers across both channels to ensure customers receive the same value regardless of where they choose to purchase.

This approach reflects a broader shift in retail, where omnichannel consistency is becoming more important than channel-specific pricing strategies.

Building local talent has been a critical challenge

Expansion into smaller cities has also presented operational challenges, particularly around workforce development.

Singh acknowledged that finding skilled retail professionals in emerging markets was initially difficult. To address this challenge, the company focused on hiring local talent and investing heavily in training and enablement programmes.

“When we expanded into Tier 3 and Tier 4 markets, skilled workforce availability was one of the biggest challenges. We addressed this by hiring local talent and providing the required training and enablement,” he said.

The strategy has helped the company build a workforce capable of delivering a consistent customer experience across locations while also creating employment opportunities within local communities.

Services and lifecycle support are becoming strategic differentiators

While device sales remain important, Unicorn Infosolutions increasingly sees long-term value in service-led customer engagement.

The company has invested in supporting customers throughout the entire device lifecycle, from purchase to after-sales support and upgrade programmes.

“We focus on end-to-end device lifecycle support. From the day a product is purchased, our after-sales teams provide solutions that enhance the overall customer experience,” Singh noted.

Beyond retail sales, Unicorn is also seeing growing traction in its SMB-focused initiatives and exchange programmes, which allow customers to upgrade devices more affordably through trade-ins and exchange bonuses.

These programmes are creating additional engagement opportunities while helping customers remain within the Apple ecosystem over a longer period.

Education could become the next major growth engine

Among the various segments being targeted, Singh identified education as one of the most promising opportunities going forward.

He believes the student market has significant untapped potential, particularly as digital learning environments continue to evolve and technology becomes increasingly integrated into education.

“One of the biggest segments is definitely the student and education segment, where we see huge potential going forward,” he said.

Combined with financing options and exchange programmes, the education market could become a major contributor to future growth for both Apple retail partners and the broader ecosystem.

Reflection of Unicorn Infosolutions growth story

Unicorn Infosolutions’ growth story reflects a larger transformation taking place across India’s premium technology retail market. While store expansion remains important, the company’s strategy increasingly revolves around financing accessibility, customer experience, lifecycle services and education-focused engagement. As Apple’s footprint expands beyond metros, channel partners that can combine retail presence with long-term customer support are likely to be best positioned to capture the next wave of demand across India’s emerging markets.
