Why data recovery could become another opportunity for IT channel partners

At the ASIRT Synergy Biz Conclave 2026 in Karjat, Maharashtra, Akshay Choubey, Founder, Mumbai Data Recovery, spoke about his eight-year association with ASIRT, the role of data recovery in supporting IT partners and the opportunity to add the service to their portfolios.
Data is increasingly central to business operations, making the ability to recover information from failed or inaccessible storage increasingly important. Industry research also tracks data recovery as part of a broader Indian backup and recovery market, covering services and technologies across storage environments. One recent Frost & Sullivan estimate cited in an Indian prospectus puts India's data recovery and backup market at a 21.6% CAGR between 2024 and 2030, reaching more than USD 120 million by 2030.
For IT channel partners, the opportunity is not limited to selling hardware or providing routine services. When a customer's storage device fails, specialised data recovery can become another service requirement.
That is where Akshay Choubey, Founder, Mumbai Data Recovery, sees a role for his company and its association with the channel.
Eight years with ASIRT
Speaking at the ASIRT Synergy Biz Conclave 2026, organised at Karjat, Maharashtra, Choubey said his eight-year association with ASIRT has delivered more than he expected.
“We have received more than our expectations from the ASIRT.”
He also highlighted the cooperation among ASIRT members, saying the relationships have developed beyond business.
“They are not just business partners, they are friends for life.”
According to Choubey, the ASIRT core team continuously works on taking the organisation to the next level. He also pointed to the work done on the ground before events are organised.
“The core team of the ASIRT always works on how to take it to the next level.”
For him, the organisation's progress is visible year after year.
“The ASIRT that I am seeing every year, one level up, one level up, one level up, this is what is happening.”
Where Mumbai Data Recovery fits in
Choubey said Mumbai Data Recovery works with several types of storage media, including hard disks, pen drives, memory cards, SSDs and servers. He added that the company does not recover data from mobile devices.
The company's role can become particularly relevant when an IT partner's customer experiences a storage failure.
“When they sell laptops, desktops or provide services, I come into the picture when their client's hard disk or SSD flies away.”
This positions data recovery as a complementary service for partners already selling devices or providing IT services.
SSD recovery presents challenges
Choubey also pointed to SSDs as a particularly difficult area.
“Now the SSD is in a very critical condition. There are many cases where we are not able to support our partners.”
At the same time, he said the company supports its partners in most cases and can ask customers to send the affected device for recovery work.
The transcript does not provide further technical details about specific SSD recovery techniques or success rates, so no such claims can be inferred from the interaction.
An additional portfolio opportunity
Choubey's message to partners is ultimately commercial.
He believes partners looking to increase profitability within their portfolios should have a direct conversation with Mumbai Data Recovery.
“If they want to increase their profit in their portfolio, they should have a one-to-one conversation with us.”
He added:
“We will align it in such a way that they can earn a good margin.”
For an IT partner, the proposition is therefore about adding a specialised service alongside existing hardware sales and IT services.
Choubey's comments also bring the conversation back to the role of ASIRT. His experience over eight years suggests that the value of the association, in his view, lies not only in business opportunities but also in the relationships members build with one another.
For Mumbai Data Recovery, that network provides a connection with partners who can encounter data-recovery requirements through their own customer engagements.
