Akamai Survey on AI Adoption Reveals Growing Security Readiness Gap

As Indian enterprises accelerate digital transformation and AI initiatives, cybersecurity is emerging as a major concern. The latest Akamai survey on AI adoption suggests that while organisations are moving quickly to embrace AI, their security preparedness is not advancing at the same pace.

The survey, conducted during Akamai’s 2026 Partner Summit in India, gathered insights from senior business and technology leaders, including CEOs, CTOs, vice presidents, business heads, and cybersecurity professionals. The findings point to a growing challenge: how to innovate faster without exposing organisations to new cyber risks.

API Attacks Move to the Top of the Threat List

One of the strongest signals from the survey is the growing concern around APIs. Nearly 79% of respondents identified API attacks as one of the top cybersecurity threats facing customers today.

This reflects a broader shift in enterprise technology environments. As cloud services, modern applications, and AI systems become increasingly interconnected, APIs have become essential infrastructure. At the same time, they are becoming attractive targets for attackers looking to exploit weaknesses across digital ecosystems.

AI Adoption Is Rising Faster Than Security Readiness

The survey also highlights a clear preparedness gap. Only 17% of respondents believe organisations are very well prepared to manage security risks linked to AI adoption.

While businesses continue integrating AI into operations, customer experiences, and decision-making processes, governance frameworks and security controls appear to be struggling to keep pace. This creates a situation where innovation advances rapidly while risk management lags behind.

Data Privacy Emerges as the Biggest AI Concern

According to the findings, 70% of respondents identified data privacy and data leakage as the leading risks associated with AI adoption.

The result reflects growing concerns about how sensitive enterprise information is handled, protected, and governed within AI-driven environments. As organisations process larger volumes of data, ensuring privacy and maintaining trust are becoming central to successful AI strategies.

Security Becomes a Business Priority

The survey paints a picture of an evolving APAC AI threat landscape, where cybersecurity is increasingly tied to business resilience. Respondents also pointed to increasingly sophisticated attack techniques, with 42% citing evolving cyberthreats as the biggest challenge customers currently face.
