Anand Birje as Hitachi CEO drives new AI vision

Anand Birje as Hitachi CEO marks a significant leadership move as Hitachi brings together GlobalLogic, Hitachi Digital Services and Hitachi Vantara under its newly formed Digital Engineering and AI Business Unit (DEAI BU). The restructuring reflects Hitachi's growing focus on helping enterprises modernise operations through cloud, artificial intelligence, digital engineering and IT-OT integration.

Birje, who assumed the role in August 2026, said the new business will support organisations across energy, mobility and connected industries. Leveraging Hitachi's Lumada 3.0 framework and HMAX platform, the unit will combine digital and physical AI capabilities while working with ecosystem partners including Nvidia, Google, Microsoft, AWS, OpenAI, Anthropic and ServiceNow.

The newly aligned business combines the strengths of GlobalLogic, Hitachi Digital Services and Hitachi Vantara into a single organisation. As the Hitachi Digital Engineering and AI CEO, Birje will oversee efforts to deliver integrated cloud, data, AI and digital engineering capabilities while helping enterprises simplify digital transformation. The business is expected to strengthen collaboration across industries seeking AI-led operational improvements.

Hitachi DEAI BU executive leadership expands AI vision

The appointment comes as Hitachi increases investments in enterprise AI, cloud services and digital engineering. Welcoming Birje, Jun Abe Hitachi Digital Systems Head, said the executive's experience across cloud, data and AI will support the company's Hitachi Physical AI strategy while accelerating the global expansion of the HMAX platform.

Before joining Hitachi, Birje served as CEO and Board Member at Encora, leading its global digital engineering business until its acquisition by Coforge. Earlier, he spent nearly two decades at HCL Technologies, where he led digital consulting, analytics, cloud and enterprise services across global markets.

The integration of GlobalLogic, Hitachi Digital Services, and Hitachi Vantara under one business signals Hitachi's intention to offer enterprises a more connected approach to AI adoption. Rather than treating cloud, engineering and AI as separate services, the company is bringing them together to address increasingly complex digital transformation requirements.

For Anand Birje, Hitachi CEO, the immediate priority will be to align these capabilities while expanding enterprise adoption of AI-powered platforms. The move also positions Hitachi to respond to growing demand for integrated digital engineering solutions as organisations increasingly embed AI into business operations
