AWS Hyderabad Region Expansion Deepens India's AI Infrastructure Push

Amazon Web Services is strengthening its long-term commitment to India with another major investment in Hyderabad. The AWS Hyderabad region expansion goes beyond adding data centre capacity, reflecting the company's broader strategy to support AI adoption, cloud computing, and workforce development as Digital India continues to accelerate.

Hyderabad Becomes a Strategic Cloud Hub

AWS broke ground on a new data centre in Hyderabad alongside Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, marking the continued expansion of the AWS (Asia Pacific) Hyderabad Region.

The new facility is expected to strengthen cloud infrastructure while supporting the growing demand for AI services, enterprise applications, and government digital initiatives. Telangana officials said the investment reinforces the state's ambition to become India's leading destination for AI and cloud infrastructure.

A Bigger Cloud Investment Across India

The ceremony also highlighted Amazon's broader investment roadmap. After investing more than USD1.3 billion in the Hyderabad Region by the end of 2025, Amazon now plans to invest over USD 21 billion in cloud infrastructure across India between 2026 and 2030.

The investment will expand AWS data centre capacity in both Hyderabad and Mumbai, giving startups, enterprises, and public sector organisations greater access to AI services, cloud technologies, developer tools, and custom AI chips. The announcement positions AWS among the largest cloud infrastructure investors in India.

Building Infrastructure and Talent Together

The expansion is not limited to physical infrastructure. AWS is continuing to invest in workforce development through its Amazon Data Centre Skilling Program.

Now in its fourth year, the programme provides hands-on training in data centre operations for students in Hyderabad. The latest batch graduated 51 students, bringing the total number trained in the city to 250. AWS has hired 110 graduates into its Data Centre Operations team.

The company also noted that it has trained more than 10 million people in cloud skills across India since 2017 through programmes including AWS Skill Builder, AWS Educate, and AWS re/Start.

Experience Beyond Traditional Technology

AWS also highlighted employees who joined from non-traditional backgrounds, including former defence personnel and manufacturing professionals. According to the company, these examples demonstrate that large-scale cloud infrastructure increasingly requires skills that extend beyond conventional IT expertise, combining engineering, operational discipline, and critical infrastructure management.
