Commvault Active Directory Pre Recover targets identity downtime
Active Directory sits behind access to enterprise applications, users and business processes, making identity recovery a critical part of cyber recovery. Commvault is taking a different approach with Commvault Active Directory Pre Recover, keeping a clean standby copy ready before disruption occurs.
The solution uses existing Commvault technologies, including Cleanroom and Threat Scan, to reduce Active Directory recovery from hours to minutes. Instead of waiting for a full forest recovery after an incident, organisations can fail over to the prepared copy.
A standby AD copy changes the recovery equation
Active Directory Pre Recover creates a clean standby copy of AD inside an isolated, air-gapped Cleanroom environment. Threat Scan continuously checks AD backups so that the standby copy remains free of malicious content.
This changes the recovery process from rebuilding identity services after an incident to having a trusted recovery environment already prepared. For organisations, that can mean keeping critical systems available even when production identity services are disrupted.
The approach also avoids waiting for a full forest restore or relying on complicated identity synchronisation. Applications can continue authenticating against the trusted identity service without requiring replication of accounts into alternate identity and access management systems.
Identity recovery moves toward near-real-time
The product reflects a broader shift in how organisations are approaching Active Directory recovery. Faster restoration alone is not enough if the recovered environment could carry malicious content back into production.
Commvault is therefore combining recovery readiness with continuous scanning. The result is designed to support near-real-time identity recovery, while reducing the risk of re-infection during the process.
For enterprise IT teams, the practical value is less disruption during a cyber incident. Keeping identity services available can help applications and infrastructure continue operating while recovery work takes place.
Recovery readiness becomes part of resilience
Commvault Active Directory Pre Recover will enter early access in the coming months as part of Commvault’s Identity Resilience portfolio. Enterprise AD customers will receive it through their existing licence, including a lite version of Cleanroom.
The offering will also be available globally through Commvault’s partner ecosystem.
