FUJIFILM India semiconductor materials move signals growth in domestic chip manufacturing

India’s semiconductor ambitions received another boost as FUJIFILM India's semiconductor materials plans moved a step forward through a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat State Electronics Mission (GSEM), Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat. Signed at the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Vadodara, the agreement focuses on exploring opportunities to manufacture semiconductor materials in India and strengthen local supply chains.

Why This Move Matters

The announcement highlights a broader shift taking place across India’s technology and manufacturing landscape. As demand for semiconductors rises across electronics, automotive, telecommunications, and artificial intelligence, the need for reliable access to critical materials is becoming increasingly important.

Through the agreement, FUJIFILM India will evaluate the possibility of establishing a semiconductor materials production base in Dholera. The company also plans to work with government agencies, industry bodies, and private enterprises to support the development of a stronger semiconductor ecosystem.

Building a More Resilient Supply Chain

A key theme behind the collaboration is supply chain resilience. Rather than focusing only on chip manufacturing, the initiative targets the materials and technologies that support semiconductor production.

According to FUJIFILM India, the effort aligns with India’s vision of becoming a global semiconductor hub while helping improve self-reliance in critical semiconductor materials. The company sees localised manufacturing and technology collaboration as important elements in strengthening India’s position within the global semiconductor value chain.

Dholera Emerges as a Strategic Location

FUJIFILM India Managing Director Koji Wada described the MoU as an important milestone in the company’s long-term plans for India. The agreement brings the company closer to evaluating investments in Dholera while supporting economic growth and technological advancement.

The initiative also reflects the company’s intention to contribute to the country's evolving technology ecosystem through innovation and manufacturing capabilities.
