HMD India and PhonePe collaboration opens UPI access for feature phone users

The HMD India and PhonePe collaboration is bringing UPI 123Pay to a wider range of HMD and Nokia feature phones in India. The move extends essential digital payment services to users who continue to rely on feature phones for everyday communication and financial needs.

PhonePe UPI 123Pay is now available across models including the HMD 105 2G, HMD 110 2G, Nokia 105 Classic, Nokia 105 Single SIM, Nokia 105 Dual SIM, Nokia 106 and Nokia 123 Shield. Both companies are also working to extend the service to more devices.

HMD feature phones get wider UPI integration

The HMD feature phones UPI integration gives users access to several everyday payment functions without requiring a smartphone. Supported users can send and receive money through a mobile number or UPI ID, while camera-equipped phones can also support QR-based payments.

The feature also allows users to check bank balances, view transaction history and complete mobile recharges. For HMD, the approach keeps the basic experience of a feature phone intact while adding services that have become part of everyday digital transactions.

PhonePe UPI 123Pay brings payments beyond smartphones

The PhonePe UPI 123Pay integration also points to a wider role for feature phones in India's digital ecosystem. HMD's stated focus is on enabling consumers to access digital services without forcing them to move to smartphones.

For users who prefer feature phones because of their simplicity, reliability and affordability, the addition of UPI creates a more practical digital experience. The partnership also positions feature phones as more than devices primarily used for calls and messages.

Nokia and HMD digital payments push inclusion

The Nokia and HMD digital payments strategy reflects an effort to connect familiar devices with services that consumers increasingly use. HMD currently offers the widest range of feature phones enabled with the PhonePe app, according to the company.

The collaboration could also expand as additional models receive support. This keeps the focus on extending digital payment access through devices that consumers already own and use.

Inclusive Fintech partnership looks beyond smartphones

The inclusive fintech partnership brings together HMD's feature-phone portfolio and PhonePe's UPI platform to address users outside the smartphone ecosystem. PhonePe's vision is to extend digital payments to a wider base, while HMD is positioning feature phones as part of that access layer.

The HMD India and PhonePe collaboration therefore goes beyond adding another application to feature phones. It shows how familiar, simpler devices can become entry points to practical digital services, while retaining the form factor and experience users already trust.
