Infobip Fraud & Security Report Highlights the AI Battle Against Digital Fraud

Artificial intelligence is transforming digital communications in two very different ways. While cybercriminals are using AI to launch faster and more targeted attacks, enterprises are deploying equally advanced tools to protect customers and networks. The latest Infobip Fraud & Security Report highlights this growing technology race, showing how AI has become central to both fraud and cybersecurity.

Based on billions of global interactions, the report points to a sharp rise in AI-powered fraud while also revealing growing enterprise investment in automated detection and prevention technologies.

AI Is Accelerating Both Threats and Protection

The report found a 77% increase in detected fraud threats as attackers increasingly use AI to scale and personalize malicious messaging campaigns. In response, organizations are strengthening their defenses by embedding AI directly into communication infrastructure.

AI-powered fraud detection adoption increased by 71% year over year, while pattern-based detection grew by 105%. This shift suggests businesses are moving beyond static security models toward adaptive systems that can respond to evolving threats in real time.

Phishing Continues to Lead Security Challenges

Phishing remained the largest source of blocked harmful content, accounting for 49% of detected incidents and recording a 94% year-on-year increase. The findings indicate that attackers continue to rely heavily on deceptive messaging even as communication platforms become more sophisticated.

The report also highlights increasing adoption of Network APIs, including SIM Swap and Number Verification services, which grew by 91%. Financial institutions emerged as the leading adopters of these technologies as organizations strengthen identity verification and fraud prevention.
