LTTS and Cognite partnership takes Industrial AI further

AI adoption in industrial environments is moving into a more practical phase. The challenge is no longer only finding where AI can be used, but connecting it with engineering knowledge, operational data and asset workflows. The LTTS and Cognite partnership is aimed at that gap, bringing engineering expertise and Industrial AI together for asset-intensive industries.

L&T Technology Services (LTTS) is partnering with Cognite to develop and deliver joint industrial AI and data solutions across sectors including Oil & Gas, Chemicals, LNG, CPG/FMCG, Mining and Industrial Manufacturing.

Industrial AI Needs Engineering Context

The partnership combines LTTS’ capabilities in engineering, manufacturing operations and asset lifecycle management with Cognite’s Industrial AI and data capabilities. The focus is on moving AI from isolated experiments into workflows that can support day-to-day industrial operations.

LTTS has also established a dedicated Cognite Center of Excellence and certified an initial group of more than 50 engineers. The two companies are co-developing industry-specific solutions as part of the collaboration.

That creates a more focused route towards Industrial AI solutions, particularly in environments where large amounts of operational and asset data need to be connected with engineering decisions.

Predictive Maintenance Moves Into the Workflow

One area highlighted by the LTTS and Cognite partnership is the deployment of AI-powered applications, digital twins, predictive maintenance solutions and operational intelligence platforms.

The first joint project is already underway with a global top-ten oil and gas company. The project is transforming a manual mechanical-integrity process into a contextualised and scalable digital workflow.

The aim is practical: help engineers work more efficiently, identify risks faster and ultimately prevent downtime and safety events.

From AI Pilots to Production

The broader takeaway is that industrial AI adoption depends on more than adding AI capabilities to existing systems. Enterprises also need the engineering context and connected workflows required to make those capabilities useful.

For LTTS, the partnership expands its Engineering Intelligence portfolio through Cognite’s Industrial AI capabilities. For industrial customers, the focus is on applying AI to asset performance, operational resilience and productivity rather than keeping it limited to experimentation.

With its new centre of excellence, trained engineers and initial customer project, the LTTS and Cognite partnership is positioning industrial AI around a more direct path from pilot projects to production use.
