StraitsMicro launches Visora, a Sovereign Surveillance SoC

In a landmark move poised to reshape the landscape of surveillance technology, StraitsMicro, a deep-tech company from Singapore, has introduced Visora, a sovereign Camera System-on-Chip (SoC) family. This cutting-edge innovation was showcased at a prestigious pre-silicon demonstration, marking a significant step forward in creating secure and indigenous silicon alternatives. Visora emerges as a pivotal solution to the void left by the Government of India's prohibition on Chinese SoCs in surveillance hardware. It is poised to become India's sovereign surveillance SoC family, tailored for government, defence, smart-city initiatives, and critical infrastructure both domestically and on the global stage.
In its strategic market entry, StraitsMicro is rolling out its proof-of-concept through a trio of showcase touchpoints. This initiative is bolstered by collaborations with key partners such as Proxlera, a Bengaluru-based design partner, Aqtronics as a distributor, and VVDN handling EMS. The India-Singapore semiconductor partnership forms a compelling backdrop to this narrative.
Pankaj Sharma, the visionary Founder & CEO of StraitsMicro, remarked, "Today marks the triumphant pre-silicon validation of our indigenous CCTV Camera Edge AI SoC architecture. It underscores our dedication to crafting trusted, secure, and intelligent semiconductor solutions for surveillance and beyond, catering to both Indian and global markets. Our ambition is to establish a globally competitive semiconductor company, leveraging India's design talent and Singapore's fabrication expertise. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with governments, industries, customers, and partners to forge relevant and reliable semiconductor solutions. This is merely the beginning of our product and solutions roadmap, and we invite strategic partners and customers to join us on this exhilarating journey."
The event featured a live demonstration of the FPGA-based Camera SoC, highlighting proposed AI capabilities, security architecture, and performance metrics. The Visora product roadmap includes three CCTV products and one for Network Video Recorders (NVR). The entry-level Visora Edge supports video resolutions up to 5MP at 30fps, catering to residential, retail, and small business applications. The mid-range Visora Secure offers up to 8MP at 30fps, complete with integrated AI acceleration and advanced low-light imaging for commercial and industrial surveillance, smart cities, and transport systems. The high-end Visora Pro scales up to 4K at 120fps, supporting up to eight cameras for defence, border security, and critical infrastructure. Meanwhile, the Visora Network SoC for NVRs rounds out StraitsMicro's trusted surveillance semiconductor platform, ensuring secure video processing and transmission across the surveillance ecosystem.
The architecture of the Visora family combines an ultra-low-power multicore 64-bit CPU with hardware-accelerated AI, low-power DDR5, and H.265 video encoding, ensuring high compression rates. The imaging pipeline incorporates features such as multi-exposure HDR, motion-compensated 3D noise reduction, and on-chip lossless buffer compression. Depending on the model, edge AI functions range from motion and human detection to crowd analytics and advanced edge inference.
KT Chan, Director - Services & Partners at StraitsMicro, added, "With three decades in the semiconductor industry, I am convinced that trusted semiconductor technologies are crucial for the future of secure AI solutions. StraitsMicro blends extensive experience, leadership, and technical prowess with innovative product development and international partnerships to produce semiconductor solutions in India with global relevance. Our mission is not only to develop world-class semiconductor solutions but also to contribute to a trusted and resilient semiconductor ecosystem. We express our gratitude to all our customers and partners for their unwavering support and look forward to creating lasting value together."
StraitsMicro's strategy is centred on nurturing the electronics and semiconductor ecosystem through the creation of a Semiconductor Development Hub. This hub aims to foster indigenous product development via co-creation and provide added value to domestic fabless semiconductor companies, facilitating the growth of indigenous products and a comprehensive approach to developing the electronics and semiconductor ecosystem on both domestic and global fronts.
