The shift toward software-defined vehicles is changing what automakers need from their technology stacks. With centralised computing, zonal networks, ADAS, electric mobility and connected features gaining importance, the silicon underneath these systems is becoming a bigger part of vehicle design.
TCS has launched TCS SoC design services for automotive OEMs and semiconductor ecosystem companies. The offering is designed to support the full custom System-on-Chip lifecycle, from architecture and design to verification, implementation, software integration and system validation.
TCS automotive semiconductor push connects chip and vehicle
The move reflects a wider change within automotive development described in the announcement. As software takes on more responsibility for vehicle functionality, automakers are looking for computing systems that match specialised workloads, performance needs and individual product roadmaps.
Custom SoCs can give manufacturers greater control over those computing capabilities while helping align silicon with software requirements, performance-per-watt goals and vehicle experiences.
TCS brings semiconductor engineering, VLSI design, hardware-software co-design and system validation together under its new offering.
TCS chip engineering takes a system-level route
A key part of the approach is TCS' chip-to-system engineering model. Rather than treating chip development as a standalone programme, the company says it considers vehicle architecture, software platforms, workloads and compute requirements before defining the SoC architecture.
That connection could be important as automotive platforms become more dependent on specialised computing. It also brings TCS chip engineering closer to the wider product lifecycle, from silicon through embedded software and system validation.
TCS custom silicon development targets next-gen mobility
The services are aimed at automotive applications where performance, power efficiency and safety are increasingly important. TCS says combining silicon engineering with system expertise can help customers accelerate custom silicon programmes while improving productivity, cost efficiency and control over silicon roadmaps.
The launch also builds on TCS' existing capabilities across advanced silicon technologies, embedded systems and complex product development.
