Acer launches Vero 16 with upgradeable AI hardware

Acer has launched the Acer Vero 16, a premium laptop that puts repairability alongside performance, AI and display quality. The fourth-generation Vero consumer laptop uses recycled and low-carbon materials while making key internal components easier for users to access, replace and upgrade.

The Acer Vero 16 combines Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors with Windows 11 Copilot+ PC features, a 16-inch OLED display and modern connectivity. But its more interesting shift is the move from Acer’s earlier 3R approach of reduce, reuse and recycle to a 4R model that adds repairability.

Repairability becomes part of the laptop design

The Vero 16 is built with 50% post-industrial recycled aluminum and 50% low-carbon aluminum across its top and palm-rest covers. Its bottom cover uses 60% post-consumer recycled plastic, while the display bezels use 30% PCR plastic.

The design also makes repairs less dependent on complex access. A bottom-cover latch provides tool-free access to internal components, while the battery and SSD can be replaced by users. The hinge and I/O port covers are also designed for easier removal and repair.

Acer has extended this approach to upgradeability, with the laptop designed to support processor upgrades for at least two generations. A visual repair guide is engraved directly onto the device, adding a practical layer to the repair-first design.

Performance meets a 3K OLED display

The Acer Vero 16 specs include up to an Intel Core Ultra X9 processor 388H with up to 180 platform TOPS, alongside up to 32 GB LPDDR5x memory and 512 GB SSD storage. Configurations can also include a 16-inch 3K OLED WQXGA+ display.

A 71 Wh battery, Wi-Fi 7, Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1 and an SD card reader round out the hardware. The laptop also includes a 5 MP IR camera with a privacy shutter and a backlit keyboard with Acer MyKey for quick access to apps and features.

AI is built into the everyday workflow

As a Windows 11 Copilot+ PC, the Vero 16 brings on-device AI into tasks such as content creation, communication and productivity. Features include Click to Do, Cocreator, Live Captions with translation and Windows Studio Effects.

Acer’s own AI tools add functions such as QR scanning, image generation, video playback controls and text magnification. PurifiedView and PurifiedVoice focus on improving video calls, while AcerSense provides controls for performance, battery, storage and AI collaboration features.

A different idea of laptop longevity

The Vero 16’s most notable point is how its sustainability story connects with repairability. Recycled materials and recyclable packaging address how the laptop is made and shipped, while replaceable components and planned processor upgrades address what happens after purchase.

That combination gives the Sustainable repairable laptop category a more practical angle. Instead of sustainability being limited to materials, Acer is tying it to how long the device can remain useful.

The Acer Vero 16 will be available in EMEA in Q1 2027.
