Proactive Cyber-Resiliency: Synology launches ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 and DP5200

Storage solutions provider Synology has detailed its comprehensive technology roadmap at the Computex 2026 exhibition, showcasing an interconnected portfolio of AI-enhanced data management platforms, physical surveillance appliances, and hybrid cloud recovery architectures. The updates span across the next generation of its core DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system, the ActiveProtect enterprise security infrastructure line, and home-centric private cloud endpoints.

The developments arrive during an era of changing corporate regulatory standards and sophisticated data threats, shifting storage management away from static capacity allocation toward secure data orchestration and integrated threat visibility. 

The Next Generation of DiskStation Manager (DSM)

The upcoming iteration of Synology's DSM operating system is engineered to serve as an on-premises foundation for both scalable enterprise management and private artificial intelligence execution. By introducing native validation for GPU NAS hardware and dedicated AI appliances, the platform enables organisations to conduct localised AI inference, model training, and data governance entirely within their private network boundaries, bypassing cloud-associated data-leak vulnerabilities.

Key management and security elements built into the next-gen DSM platform include:

• The DSM Agent: An automated orchestration utility that handles intelligent, system-wide workloads and automates repetitive administrative procedures.

• Cluster Manager Interface: Unifies highly distributed multi-system arrays under a single point of control, streamlining live workload migrations, Quality of Service (QoS) tiering, and cross-cluster protection rules.

• Mass Deployment Provisioning: Integrated directly into Active Insight to facilitate rapid remote setup and resource allocation across multiple geographic office sites.

• Revamped Log Centre: Delivers advanced enterprise observability metrics alongside verified FIPS 140-3 cryptographic certifications to simplify legal and compliance audits in strictly regulated environments.

ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 and the DP5200 Appliance

To transition enterprise architecture from reactive disaster recovery to proactive system protection, Synology has introduced ActiveProtect Manager (APM) 2.0, slated for global deployment in the third quarter of 2026. The updated software layer broadens multi-cloud backup mobility by extending native ingestion and cross-platform restoration to include Amazon EC2, Azure Virtual Machines, Proxmox VE, Nutanix AHV, and Google Workspace environments.

To limit secondary ransomware propagation, the platform implements a machine-learning engine that monitors backup data snapshots for anomalous behaviour, identifying sudden metric shifts like irregular change rates or unexpected entropy spikes. Files flagged by the system are placed into isolation, while the Auto Fallback protocol ensures system continuity by automatically restoring workloads from the closest verified, uncompromised recovery point. Complementing the software rollouts, the newly debuted ActiveProtect DP5200 appliance joins the existing hardware tier to supply greater bare-metal deployment flexibility for extensive data centre nodes.

Surveillance Ecosystem and Access Control Infrastructure

Synology has expanded its physical security footprint by integrating access control hardware directly into its native Surveillance Station platform. The infrastructure expansion introduces the AC100 door controller and the AR Series biometric readers, working in tandem with the brand's new DC Series dome cameras to centralise facility security logs.

For perimeter monitoring and asset protection, new Deep Video Analytics (DVA) computing appliances deploy AI semantic event searching alongside automated re-identification path tracking to log personnel or vehicular movement across separate camera lenses. Operational workflows are rounded out by Surveillance365, a Video Surveillance as a Service (VSaaS) hybrid cloud solution that unifies distributed physical surveillance stations under a singular remote monitoring portal.

On-Premises Productivity and Private Home Cloud Scaling

The brand's native web-based application environment, the Synology Office Suite, has received collaborative additions aimed at modern enterprise workflows:

• ChatPlus and Meet: Introduces internal text communication hubs and video conferencing options backed by strict administrative permission access.

• Private AI Subsystems: Both collaboration tools embed local, AI-powered transcription and live translation engines that retain data operations entirely on-premises.

For consumer, remote-work, and residential layouts, Synology has updated its consumer-tier hardware by scaling the BeeStation and BeeStation Plus appliance lines to feature a broader array of fixed-capacity storage choices. Home environments can leverage the BeeCamera app protocols to stream residential video surveillance recordings straight into a local BeeStation Plus unit. Furthermore, localised searches across these personal networks are handled by Synology Deep Search, which introduces on-device, natural-language file searching across macOS and Windows clients without leaking search content to public external indexing servers.
