Red Hat set up Ansible for AI operations

Red Hat is pushing Ansible Automation Platform into a much larger role inside enterprise IT. The company’s latest update is not only about automation anymore. It is about turning AI-generated insights into real operational actions without losing governance, visibility or control.
With the launch of Ansible Automation Platform 2.7 and a new automation orchestrator currently in technology preview, Red Hat is positioning the platform as a Trusted execution layer for AI agents operating inside complex IT environments. The announcement reflects a wider industry shift where enterprises are moving from AI experimentation toward production-scale automation.
The challenge for many organisations today is not generating AI insights. It is deciding how those insights safely interact with real infrastructure. That is where Red Hat believes automation becomes critical.
AI workflows now need governance, not just speed
The company’s latest platform updates focus heavily on Governed AI automation workflows. Instead of replacing existing automation systems, Red Hat is trying to connect AI-driven reasoning with deterministic and human-approved actions already used inside enterprise IT operations.
One of the more important additions is the Ansible Model Context Protocol server, designed to simplify how AI tools connect with automation environments. The platform also allows enterprises to inject organisation-specific knowledge and policies into AI workflows, helping responses become more contextual instead of generic.
This matters because enterprises are increasingly worried about uncontrolled AI behaviour inside operational systems. AI may recommend actions quickly, but production environments still require traceability, compliance and oversight.
Red Hat’s new orchestration layer attempts to combine AI-driven, event-driven and task-based automation into a single workflow environment. The idea is simple — use AI where reasoning is needed, but rely on trusted automation for execution.
Enterprise AI is moving beyond experimentation
The announcement also highlights how infrastructure teams are preparing for more autonomous IT operations. According to IDC projections shared in the release, agentic AI environments are expected to grow rapidly over the next few years.
That growth creates a new operational problem. AI agents become useful only when connected to systems that can safely execute tasks at scale. Red Hat appears to be positioning Ansible as the operational backbone connecting those two worlds.
The platform’s updated access management capabilities, workflow orchestration tools and automation portal upgrades also suggest that governance is becoming just as important as intelligence in enterprise AI environments.
Sathish Balakrishnan, Vice President and General Manager, Ansible, Red Hat, said the platform now acts as a control plane across task-based, event-driven and AI-driven automation. The larger takeaway is becoming clearer across enterprise IT. AI alone may generate decisions, but automation platforms will increasingly decide whether those decisions can actually be trusted in production.
