SanDisk CMR Creator Economy Report Highlights Storage Challenges

India's creator economy is no longer defined only by creativity or social media reach. According to the SanDisk CMR creator economy report, the next challenge lies behind the camera—how creators store, manage, and move their growing volumes of content.

The CyberMedia Research (CMR) study, commissioned by SanDisk, shows that content creation is becoming more frequent, more professional, and increasingly spread across India's regions. But as creators scale their output, infrastructure gaps are beginning to affect their workflow.

Creators Are Publishing More, But Systems Are Struggling

The report finds that around 75% of creators publish content every week, with many producing 5–10GB of content daily. Full HD video and high-resolution images have become standard across amateur, semi-professional, and professional creators.

However, this growth is exposing operational challenges. Around 60% of growing creators report facing storage constraints every day or every week. Slow file transfers, limited storage capacity, and devices running out of space during shoots are emerging as the biggest obstacles.

Regional Growth Is Reshaping the Creator Economy

The study also points to a more geographically diverse creator landscape. North India is steadily moving toward professional content creation, South India shows strong publishing consistency, East India demonstrates disciplined workflows, while West India combines scale with youth-led community engagement.

This suggests that India's creator economy is expanding beyond traditional metro hubs, creating new opportunities across the country.

Storage Is Becoming a Creative Enabler

The report indicates that technology limitations directly influence creative output. If storage barriers disappeared, 64% of creators would produce longer videos, 58% would experiment with new formats, and 45% would preserve RAW files. Nearly half believe they would feel more confident pursuing creative ideas.

SanDisk positions its portfolio of microSD cards, pen drives, and portable SSDs as tools to support creators throughout the content lifecycle—from capture to publishing.
