Zscaler ZAgent Framework Documentation Signals Bigger Shift

As enterprises deal with distributed workforces, unmanaged devices, and increasingly sophisticated AI-powered attacks, traditional security models are struggling to keep up. Zscaler’s latest expansion of its Zero Trust SASE platform reflects a broader shift in how organisations are approaching cybersecurity in the AI era.
The company has introduced the ZAgent Framework, along with a series of new capabilities to secure communications among users, partners, devices, and cloud workloads through a unified cloud-native architecture.
Why Zscaler is moving beyond legacy SASE
According to Zscaler, many existing SASE deployments still rely on firewall and VPN-based architectures originally designed for a network perimeter that no longer exists. As organisations operate across multiple clouds, remote environments, and partner ecosystems, these models can create complexity and operational challenges.
The company says its security cloud now processes more than 750 billion daily transactions. This scale provides the intelligence foundation for its Zero Trust Exchange platform, helping strengthen policy enforcement and threat protection across modern enterprise environments.
ZAgent Framework aims to simplify security operations
A key announcement is the launch of the ZAgent Framework, designed to automate administration tasks across the Zero Trust SASE platform.
Administrators can interact with ZAgent using natural language prompts through the Zscaler Experience Centre. The framework supports functions such as configuration management, troubleshooting, policy validation, drift detection, and root-cause analysis.
Zscaler also introduced the ZDX Agent, which helps identify issues affecting user experience, including Wi-Fi, ISP, and device-related problems, before they become larger operational concerns.
Extending Zero Trust beyond employees
Another notable development is the expansion of Zero Trust controls to unmanaged and BYOD environments through a browser extension and enterprise browser approach.
The company also unveiled Zscaler B2B Exchange, enabling application access between organisations and their partners without exposing networks or relying on traditional site-to-site VPN connections. The move highlights the growing importance of securing digital supply chains through policy-based access controls.
Additional capabilities include endpoint sandboxing for files introduced through offline channels such as USB devices.
Bringing Zero Trust to multi-cloud workloads
Zscaler is also extending security controls deeper into cloud infrastructure. New support for Google Cloud Platform through the Zero Trust Gateway for GCP aims to provide consistent workload security alongside existing AWS coverage. The company has also introduced microsegmentation capabilities for Kubernetes environments to help prevent lateral threat movement across virtual machines and containers.
