Samsung 990 SSD Brings PCIe 4.0 Performance to Everyday PCs

As PC workloads become heavier and games continue to grow in size, storage is becoming a critical part of the overall computing experience. Samsung's latest Samsung 990 SSD reflects this shift by focusing not only on higher speeds but also on power efficiency and practical storage capacity for modern users.

The new drive will be available in 1TB and 2TB variants from the last week of July 2026. Samsung positions it as a balanced solution for gamers, content creators, DIY PC builders, and users handling demanding everyday workloads.

PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD powers the next level of performance

The PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD supports sequential read speeds of up to 7,250 MB/s read speed on the 2TB model, while the 1TB version reaches up to 7,150 MB/s. Both variants deliver sequential write speeds of up to 6,450 MB/s.

Random performance also receives a boost. The 2TB model offers up to 850K read and 1,200K write IOPS, while the 1TB version delivers up to 700K read and 1,100K write IOPS. Together, these improvements are aimed at reducing loading times, speeding up application launches and handling large files more efficiently.

Tommy (Hyoungsuk) Kwon, VP, Memory Brand Product Biz Team, Samsung Electronics, said the new SSD is designed for users expanding storage for gaming, creative work, heavy workloads and DIY PC builds.

Samsung internal SSD puts efficiency alongside performance

Beyond raw performance, Samsung is placing equal emphasis on efficiency. The company says the Samsung internal SSD improves power efficiency by up to 38% compared with the previous 990 PRO, allowing users to maintain performance while consuming less power.

Storage capacity is another practical advantage. The 2TB version can accommodate up to 30 large games based on an average file size of 64GB, reflecting the increasing storage requirements of modern applications and AAA titles.

Samsung also bundles its Magician Software for drive health monitoring, data migration, performance optimisation and data protection.

The Samsung 990 SSD will be available in 1TB and 2TB capacities at Rs 25,649 and Rs 50,349 respectively, backed by a three-year limited warranty.
