Red Hat explains why hybrid cloud and open source is a channel opportunity

As enterprise IT strategies evolve, organisations are re-evaluating long-standing infrastructure decisions while preparing for AI-driven transformation. Virtualisation, hybrid cloud and open-source platforms are emerging as key priorities as businesses look for greater flexibility, lower operational complexity and freedom from technology lock-in. For channel partners, this shift is creating opportunities that extend well beyond infrastructure deployment, demanding stronger consulting capabilities and solution-led engagements.
Ausim Khan, Director – Partner Ecosystem, India/South Asia & Head of APAC Value Distribution, Red Hat, said the role of partners is increasingly centred on helping customers solve business challenges rather than simply reselling technology.
"It's not a traditional resale model. We encourage our partners to add value and solve complex business situations and problems of our customers."
According to Khan, Red Hat's partner strategy is built around enabling partners to become trusted advisors who can guide customers through digital transformation while delivering long-term business value.
Virtualisation disruption is creating new opportunities
Khan believes the virtualisation market is undergoing a significant transition as enterprises reassess proprietary technologies and explore more flexible alternatives.
Rather than replacing existing environments overnight, organisations are looking for platforms that allow them to modernise gradually while protecting previous technology investments.
He explained that Red Hat's approach enables customers to operate traditional virtual machines alongside containerised workloads, allowing modernisation without disrupting business operations.
"Customers can simultaneously run their traditional virtual machines along with containers so that there is no disruption and they can easily navigate towards containers while they still continue to use their virtualised environment."
This measured approach, he noted, creates substantial opportunities for partners that can help enterprises assess existing environments, plan migration strategies and execute modernisation projects.
"There is no one-size-fits-all strategy. Customers are evaluating what would be the best suitable technology for their environments."
Hybrid cloud is becoming a business necessity
Hybrid and multi-cloud environments are no longer technology experiments but practical business requirements, particularly for organisations operating in regulated industries.
According to Khan, enterprises increasingly want the flexibility to decide where workloads should run while maintaining compliance with regulatory and data sovereignty requirements.
He cited banking as one example where organisations are using hybrid cloud architectures for workloads such as fraud detection, risk modelling and loan management without compromising operational control.
"It's very important for customers to have that flexibility and to have that control on how they want to and where they want to run their applications."
Red Hat's platform-agnostic approach enables organisations to maintain a consistent operating experience across edge environments, public cloud and on-premises infrastructure, giving customers greater deployment flexibility while reducing dependence on individual technology providers.
AI success depends on ecosystems, not individual platforms
Khan believes enterprise AI has matured considerably over the past year. While many early initiatives focused primarily on experimentation, organisations are increasingly looking for production-ready deployments capable of delivering measurable business outcomes.
"Until last year there was too much buzz around AI where customers were experimenting. What we are seeing now is many use cases getting into production and being adopted by customers."
He emphasised that no single organisation can deliver enterprise AI independently. Successful deployments require multiple technologies working together through a collaborative ecosystem.
Within this framework, Red Hat's recently announced AI Factory with NVIDIA enables partners to develop specialised AI capabilities while designing customer-specific solutions.
"AI is a culmination of multiple technologies and Red Hat plays a very important role in providing that platform to help customers build their applications."
Rather than offering standardised AI deployments, partners are expected to combine technologies from multiple vendors while supporting customers through the journey from proof of concept to production.
Technology alliances strengthen partner-led innovation
Khan described partnerships as one of the strongest differentiators within Red Hat's ecosystem.
The company works with hyperscalers, OEMs, independent software vendors and technology providers to certify applications and infrastructure, enabling partners to combine multiple technologies into integrated customer solutions.
He explained that these alliances allow customers to benefit from validated platforms while giving partners the flexibility to address diverse business requirements.
Equally important, Red Hat supports multiple partner programmes designed around different partner types, recognising that system integrators, OEMs, ISVs and cloud providers each contribute differently to customer transformation.
The future belongs to partners that build intellectual property
According to Khan, the era of traditional technology distribution is rapidly fading.
"The time of traditional distribution is over. Those who are doing that possibly will struggle because they are not adding value to their customers."
Instead, he believes partners should focus on developing their own intellectual property by building industry-specific solutions on open platforms.
He illustrated this using independent software vendors that create applications certified on Red Hat technologies, allowing those solutions to be replicated across multiple customer engagements.
"Partners can build their own IP using our products and that changes the entire narrative when they are having those conversations with their customers."
Beyond software development, Khan identified virtualisation modernisation, hybrid cloud adoption and industry-specific AI use cases across logistics, healthcare, manufacturing and pharmaceuticals as significant opportunities for partner-led innovation.
India's next growth phase will be driven by AI and modernisation
Looking ahead, Khan believes India is entering an important phase of enterprise technology transformation.
While virtualisation presents immediate opportunities as organisations evaluate alternative platforms, AI is emerging as a much broader market supported by government initiatives, growing startup activity and one of the world's largest software developer communities.
He noted that AI adoption is accelerating across industries as organisations seek to reduce costs, improve operational efficiency and deliver better customer experiences.
"All industries are looking for ways to leverage AI in an effective manner."
For Red Hat, partners will remain central to this transition. Whether through global system integrators, Indian technology providers or independent software vendors, their ability to combine technical expertise with business understanding will determine how successfully enterprises navigate modernisation.
